NBA to begin awarding four points for tackling

NBA fans have become more and more frustrated with the lack of physicality in the league, with many players flopping for fouls and taking games off despite being uninjured. The increasing lack of aggression was more clear than ever at this year's All-Star game, when a record number of points saw the final score land at 211-186.

Now, Commissioner Adam Silver has found a way to appeal to the point-focused nature of today's players while making the game more entertaining for viewers — starting next season, anyone from a point guard to a center can score four points by tackling the opposition.

"The shooter's era was fun to watch for a long time, but now, seeing Steph Curry shoot a half-court three is as much of a surprise as seeing someone throw up after eating a pound of raw chicken — it's a given," said the commissioner. "You know what's more shocking to see than Damian Lillard hitting a game winner? Steven Adams tackling him to the hardwood floor in front of thousands."

However, referees will need to keep a watchful eye. While tackling would usually be a foul or get someone taken out of the game, under the new rule, the tackler will get four points as long as they say something nice to the player after making them eat plank.

"It's sort of a strange rule, but hey, I can give a compliment no problem! For example, look at my wonderful smile," said Giannis Antetokounmpo before flashing his pearly whites. "Don't get me wrong — I'll be tackling for those four points. But also, I don't mind being a sweetie about it before I give the mean mug."

Some players — especially those most known for flopping for a chance to shoot free throws — are completely against the switch.

"This is completely wrong. I'm being targeted," said currently injured 76ers star Joel Embiid. "I may be seven feet tall and weigh 280 pounds, but I play like a butterfly in a meadow. I'll go high, I'll go fast, and I can be seriously damaged by a strong gust of wind. If that wind becomes a tornado, my body's done," he concluded before mentioning that even if he were to have all of his bones broken at the beginning of next season, he would still be the only right choice for MVP.

Even with mixed reactions around the league, it is rumored that Draymond Green is looking forward to leading the charge — even though he won't be able to do so on his own teammates.
