'GTA VI' protagonist to be guy trying to sneak out of work 30 minutes early

Fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" video game series have been impatiently waiting for a new installment of the beloved fixture since 2013. The long-awaited trailer was released this week, giving insight into the story that Rockstar Games has been working on for the last 10 years.

This time, players will be in for a fresh, new experience. Rather than the usual routine of shooting, robbing, and commiting murder unabashedly, Rockstar is providing a much more relatable experience — the protagonist will be a guy who just wants to sneak out of his salaried job 30 minutes early.

"Here at Rockstar Games, we're all about innovation. And for us, that means giving fans as realistic of an experience as possible," began CEO Sam Houser. "At the end of the day, our goal is to give players a rush. A big part of that is putting people in in-game situations that relates to their real lives — giving them an opportunity to do what they may be too nervous to do in real life."

Make way for Greg Silas, a 54-year-old, balding accountant who just wants to get home to see the 5 o'clock news live for once.

"Not only is the story realistic, but the character design is too," continued Houser. "Greg is really quite the guy — he almost exclusively wears tan pants with a white button-up and ties from 1997. We took care of every detail, from the small coffee stain on his sleeve to the sweat in his armpits that appears by 2pm every day like clockwork, no matter how stationary he is."

Not to worry — like past installments, there are still customization options. However, the method is a bit different this year. Now, players will be able to pick Greg's clothes by switching to his wife of 26 years, Cynthia.

"Cynthia's primary role is to do tasks that Greg simply can't, whether it's finding a nice sweater for a Christmas party or telling his kids he loves them," clarified Houser.

While Cynthia Silas will only be playable for missions involving running everyday errands at first, Rockstar Games is hoping to introduce a DLC that will expand her story, including finding good deals on her favorite boxed wine, waking up her children at 6 a.m. on Saturdays just because, and owning her own business as an Herbalife saleswoman.

"Grand Theft Auto VI" won't be released in 2025, but at this point, there's no rush. Not a thing will change in the Silas household, and that's as ordinary as anyone could hope for.
